{"id":3527,"date":"2018-07-02T15:33:50","date_gmt":"2018-07-02T19:33:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/67.249.26.136\/wordpress\/?p=3527"},"modified":"2018-07-02T15:33:50","modified_gmt":"2018-07-02T19:33:50","slug":"vegas-vacation-2018-day-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/romeyn.me\/?p=3527","title":{"rendered":"Vegas Vacation 2018 &#8211; Day 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>This Winter Amanda and I decided that we needed a get-away with no purpose other than \u201cgetting away.\u201d \u00a0We hadn\u2019t been to Las Vegas since our honeymoon, and so 5 days were booked. \u00a0We selected The Venetian Resort Hotel and Casino and Amanda booked our flights. \u00a0Here we are!<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>Day One<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>We arrived late Saturday. \u00a0We gambled on a generic shared shuttle service and lost, time-wise. \u00a0The price was right, but the driver didn\u2019t know the city very well and neither, apparently, did his navigation system. \u00a0It took us almost an hour to get from the airport to our hotel. \u00a0There are no \u201crooms\u201d at The Venetian. \u00a0We have a palatial \u201csuite\u201d with a large bathroom, king-size bed, and separate, semi-sinken \u201cliving room\u201d overlooking the interior intersection of two towers and the \u201cpool garden\u201d associated with our tower.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Sunday we went across the street fo The Mirage for their breakfast buffet. \u00a0Overpriced, but delicious. \u00a0We returned to explore The Venetian. \u00a0Holy cow, is this place HUGE! \u00a0I daresay you could spend at least a week just in this resort without going outside and still not see and experience all it has to offer. \u00a0We took the inside Venetian Gondola ride first thing after walking through the shoppes. \u00a0The inside is made up to look like Venice, including the ceiling which is painted and lit like a sunny day with white\/fluffy clouds against a bright blue sky. \u00a0But the lighting isn\u2019t very intense, and so you have the illusion that it is perpetually late afternoon with the sun just having passed beyond the next building\u2014somewhere between actual sunset and twilight. \u00a0It\u2019s surreal.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>After that lengthy walk (and getting lost\u2014a first for me in a hotel!) we returned to our room for a rest (and a nap for me). \u00a0I woke in time to head back across the street for a poker tournament at The Mirage. \u00a0I took 4th place ($$$!) out of 30 or so buy-ins. \u00a0Not bad! \u00a0I returned to our room and joined Amanda as we went in search of dinner. \u00a0She had done some more thorough exploring of the casino and other areas we had not covered earlier and discovered a food court where we had a bite to eat. \u00a0After that it was another walk around \u201cVenice,\u201d then back to our room and bed.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>We have no \u201cplan.\u201d \u00a0We are simply be here and away. \u00a0It\u2019s an escape. \u00a0We might just sit in our room. \u00a0We might leave and explore somewhere else. \u00a0I might do nothing but play poker. \u00a0Who knows? \u00a0Who cares! \u00a0This is vacation. \u00a0The last time we were here we were exhausted when we left. \u00a0We did not rest. \u00a0 It will be different this time.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This Winter Amanda and I decided that we needed a get-away with no purpose other than \u201cgetting away.\u201d \u00a0We hadn\u2019t been to Las Vegas since our honeymoon, and so 5 days were booked. \u00a0We selected The Venetian Resort Hotel and Casino and Amanda booked our flights. \u00a0Here we are!
